Making a come back are Uber Tricks. Whilst bombing with the Wii-mote and Nunchuck in hand down the snow, performing tricks, grabs and rail slides you slowly fill up your groove meter until you reach the star shaped peak. When the meter is full, you are ready to perform an Uber Trick. Here’s when things get just a bit more artistic. To perform an Uber Trick you hold down A and draw from a series of shapes that you can draw using the Wii-mote and Nunchuck to fly into much bigger moves and adding an extra pool of depth to the game; the more complex the shapes the madder things get.
The Snow covered setting alike in SSX 3 is all situated on a large single mountain with different tracks placed all over. The gameplay content is set to be a mix of race and trick based missions, with the aim to equally balance the game with high speed maneuvers and a rich tapestry of tricks. There’s also skiing challenges to play through too. As for multiplayer, the main question is not if the game will have it, more the question of if it will be online. As fans of the series will remember this was taken out from the last SSX game. A multiplayer aspect of some type has been confirmed though, and also that you can hurl snowballs at other riders during a race. So hopefully we can look forward to frantic multiplayer SSX Blur, but it’s whether they will be playing on your Wii or if they can be challenged online for broadband powered Snowboarding.
Of course with all this, even experienced SSX players have a brand new experience to try and play, and we all have a brand-new type of learning curve to conquer. This may seem daunting for many players who have adjusted to an array of buttons and directional analog stick tilts to memorize. But EA have stated they are aiming for a 15-minute learning curve. Hopefully not having to dance with your thumb on a sprawl of buttons will simply make SSX that much more fun. Putting you, the player, in complete control of your snowboard skilled character or skier by translating every motion you make into your character.
Lastly, for all you fans of the series previous incarnations on a certain Nintendo platform, its currently unknown if any Mario Characters will make a welcome return.
EA is currently listing SSX Blur for release on the Nintendo Wii in March 2007.
